A STORY OF LONG-TERM GROWTH

Capital Motors, Inc. ( CMI ) was established in May 1969 as the exclusive official importer and retailer of Mercedes-Benz products in Taiwan. With over 49 years experiences, CMI continues to represent Mercedes-Benz, providing an unmatched reputation for the highest standards of sales and after sales services throughout Taiwan. The company has previously been included as one of the top 100 desirable companies in Taiwan, and also ranked within the top 100 of the best 500 enterprises in the service industry.

In January 2002, CMI together with Daimler AG, Stuttgart, jointly invested and established Mercedes-Benz Taiwan, which became the general importer of Mercedes-Benz and smart brands for the country. With the three business credos, “customer focused “, “making things happen”, and “integrity”, CMI continues to devote itself to ensuring a premium retail experience for all customers.

CMI is also the exclusive retailer of smart vehicles in Taiwan.

Headquartered in Beitou district, Taipei, the company has a total staff of over 750 and is represented by 16 sales and 12 after sales locations throughout Taiwan.

    1969
    Taiwan

    Capital Motors, Inc. (CMI) was established. The first administrator was Mr. Bao Zanyuan, who was also the Chairman and Managing director.

    Officially obtained the exclusive dealership of Mercedes-Benz in Taiwan.

    Taiwan

    Established the Taichung Branch and Workshop.

    The National Military Retired Service Corps Advisory Committee of the Executive Yuan invested in CMI and became a joint-venture institution.

    1976
    Taiwan

    The Ministry of Economic Affairs approved Capital Motors, Inc. to operate automobile production so as to manufacture trucks, buses and traction vehicles.

    Private Shares were transferred to Malaysian Overseas Chinese, Datuk Mr. Lau Yu-Bo.

    Kaohsiung Branch and Workshop opening.

    1977
    Taiwan

    Taoyuan Assembly Workshop operated but was closed after three years.

    The Ministry of Economic Affairs approved the assembly of commercial vehicles.

    1978
    Taiwan

    Northern District dealers, Tailong Motor, Taiming Motor and Chengyi (renamed Binhang Motor later on) joined Capital Motors, Inc.’s dealer operating system.

    1979
    Taiwan

    Started to assemble OF1417 bus chassis.

    The National Military Retired Service Corps Advisory Committee transferred all shareholdings to Vice-Chairman, Datuk Mr. Lau Yu-Bo and the company became a private enterprise.

    1982

    The Board of Capital Motors, Inc. agreed and assigned Datuk Lau Yu-Bo as the fifth Chairman.

    1983

    Established Taipei Branch (Now, known as Taipei Branch Minsheng showroom).

    1985

    Nangang Headquarters and Nangang Workshop were established

    The original Shihlin showroom was changed to Shihlin Branch (Now, known as TP2 Shihlin showroom).

    Kaohsiung Branch and Kaohsiung showroom were opened.

    CMI started the computerization of the parts inventory management.

    1987

    Tainan Branch was established (Now, known as CN Branch and Tainan showroom ).

    Taoyuan Branch was opened (Now, known as Taoyuan Branch and Taoyuan showroom).

    Taichung Branch, Taichung showroom started operation and they were located on Taichung’s Minquan Road.

    Kaohsiung Workshop No. 2 was established (Kaohsiung Panel Beating and Maintenance Workshop).

    1989
    Taiwan

    Complete digitalization of customer data in CMI workshops.

    Lianli Motors joined in and became a dealer for Capital Motors, Inc. in Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli region.

    Chiayi Branch was established and its location is in Beigang Road, Chiayi City (Now, known as Chiayi-Tainan Branch, Chiayi showroom and Chiayi Workshop).

    Daan Branch was established (Taipei Branch, Daan showroom).

    Taichung Branch, Fengyuan operations were established.

    Mr. Volker Harms, from Germany, was recruited as Managing Director in Capital Motors, Inc.

    Junqiao Automobile joined in and later on, changed its name to Jundu Motors, to become a dealer for Capital Motors, Inc. in Kaohsiung and Pingtung region.

    Yuanjia Motor joined in and became a dealer for Capital Motors, Inc. in the Central Area.

    1992

    Binzhi Motor joined in and became a dealer for Capital Motors, Inc. in the Southern Area.

    Bin Fu Motor joined in and became a dealer for Capital Motors, Inc. in I-lan.

    1993

    Tainan Workshop was established.

    Taichung Branch, Changhua showroom were established. (Now, transfer to Yuanlin showroom.)

    Changhua, Huatan workshop started its operations (Now, transfer to Yuanlin workshop).

    Kaohsiung Branch, Gangshan showroom and Express Service workshop were established (Now, closed).

    Binwang Motors joined in and became a dealer for Capital Motors, Inc. in the Southern Area, later on, were renamed Binzhuang Motors.

    Computerization of after-sales service system and customer information.

    1995
    Taiwan

    Kaohsiung Fengshan showroom (Panel beating and Maintenance workshop) was established (Now, known as Kaohsiung Panel Beating and Maintenance workshop).

    1996
    Taiwan

    Guandu Panel Beating and Spray Center was established.

    Taichung Branch, Fengyuan Express Service Workshop started its operations

    Quanxing Branch, with an area of 10,000 pings (more than 33,057 sq. meters) started its operations in Changhua.

    Taoyuan Branch, Northern Taoyuan showroom and Express Service Workshop began their operations.

    1997
    Taiwan

    New 5-storey parking tower completed in Nangang showroom and Workshop.

    Taoyuan workshop expansion completed.

    Guanyin workshop and showroom established.

    Chiayi workshop established, located in Taibao City of Chiayi County.

    1998

    Kaohsiung Branch moved from Minsheng Road to Zhongshan Road (Zhongshan showroom).

    Taiwan

    Capital Motors, Inc. became the largest dealer of Mercedes-Benz Taiwan.

    Officially established Nangang Chrysler showroom, in Nangang.

    Services for smart cars are available in Shihlin, Taichung and Kaohsiung workshop.

    2003

    Established Nangang workshop No.2, in Nangang.

    Established Chrysler Showroom in Kaoping Branch.

    Officially established Mercedes-Benz Minzu showroom.

    2004
    Taiwan

    CMI Magazine launched, published quarterly.

    The Board of Directors resolved and invited Chairman Mr. Tan Sri Lau Yu-Bo, to become the Permanent Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors and have Vice-Chairman Datuk, Mr. Lau Yong-Ze become the sixth Chairman till now.

    Re-decoration of Nangang showroom and construction of New Taichung showroom started.

    2005
    Taiwan

    The company was reorganized into CMI Holdings Ltd. and two subsidiaries were established, namely Capital Motors, Inc. and CMI Properties Ltd.

    2006
    Taiwan

    Established CMI Credit Ltd.

    Taichung’s flagship showroom was openeing on Taichung Zhonggang Road and the first 360-degree rotating tower in Asia was launched.

    2007
    Taiwan

    Started to build the flagship Showroom in Daliao, Kaohsiung.

    Showroom established in Neihu, Taipei.

    2008
    Taiwan

    The most exclusive used car showroom - Capital Motors, Inc. Nangang Used Car showroom was established.

    2009

    KP Branch, Kaoping showroom officially began operations.

    2010
    Taiwan

    Capital Motors, Inc. JSP was established in Chiayi, providing a full range of Mercedes-Benz related sales and after-sales service training.
